Robert Mitchell was born in London in
1971, and studied privately with Milada Robertson, and at City University
and The Guildhall School with Norman Beedie.
Early band memberships include Quite Sane, J-Life and Keith Waithe
+ Tomorows Warriors.
Musicians played/recorded with include: Norma Winstone, Steve Coleman,
Greg Osby, Courtney Pine, Steve Williamson, Ty, 2 Banks Of 4, I.G.Culture,
Shorter Stories, HKB Finn.
Present projects: Panacea (6piece - new cd soon), a duo with violinst
Omar Puente (recording soon), a solo project (recording soon) and
a trio.
Also appearing with: Ntoumos (French/Belgian group), Vaughn Hawthorne
(with Gary Husband on drums), Keith Waithe Orchestral Workshops
(BBC Symphony Orchestra).
Visiting Composer at the Royal Academy Of Music (Jazz Dept) - since
2003.
Nominated for BBCjazz Awards twice: 2002 (Best Newcomer), 2003 (Best
New Work).
Recent tours/performances abroad include: Japan (2 Banks of 4),
Morocco (Mitchell/Puente duo), Cuba (Mitchell/Puente duo), China
(J-life), Belgium/France/Holland (Ntoumos).
