born (1969), Barak studied sax and composition at Royal Academy
of Music and City University. followed by training in West African
dance drumming and Latin percussion.
A
Long-time member of Django Bates' big band Delightful Precipice
he has also playing with Bosco De Oliveira, Nana Tsiboe, Robert
Mitchell and Hilaire Penda (sax/perc).
His
own bands Timeline
(Afro-rhythmic jazz), Méta
Méta (Cuban Batá fusion) and Roots
of Unity present music often integrated with dance. In the past
he has worked extensively with dance group Bullies Ballerinas.
Also
responsible for drumming groups Akwaaba Drum Orchestra (djembe),
Sounds of Senegal (sabar) and Rhythms
of the City (samba bateria) stemming from 10 years of education
work at City University, Goldsmiths College, Royal Academy of Music
and numerous community projects.
Founder
and main co-ordinator of F-IRE activities.
