MAURIZIO RAVALICO/
OREN MARSHALL DUO

In this entirely acoustic project, Maurizio Ravalico joins forces with master tuba player Oren Marshall in a most unlikely and intriguing duo.
Oren’s tuba is, for this instance, totally unplugged, while Maurizio is forcibly confining his field of action to his first and main single instrument, the conga drum.

The result is surprisingly effective, and the sound palette unexpectedly varied. Maurizio and Oren drift effortlessly in and out of composed material and long improvised stretches, pulling out of their instruments sounds hardly imagined before.

"a fantastic set. Maurizio plays a mean set of 5 congas (...) with great melodic sensibility, creating tones almost like playing a piano. Oren, as he always does, takes the tuba and his audience through fantastic musical journeys. A good night that I can't wait to hear back on tape."

OREN MARSHALL

Oren started working as a professional tuba player at the age of 15. He has worked with every major orchestra in London and has been a member of the internationally renowned London Brass for 20 years. Through the eighties he worked with Loose Tubes and the Jazz Warriors. He was part of Derek Bailey's Company '92 and also played with Keith Tippet's "Tapestry”. At the 2002 and 2003 BBC Jazz Awards he was nominated for an award in "Jazz Innovation".
Oren has travelled extensively in Africa and has collaborated on various projects with the Pan-African Orchestra and the Ghana Dance Ensemble.
He is increasingly in demand as a soloist playing his own compositions and improvisations having toured in Holland, Belgium, Germany, UK, Spain and Portugal.
More recent projects, other than his duo with Maurizio Ravalico, include Billy Jenkins' "Songs Of Praise".
