Centripede is one band created by BBC Jazz Awards Rising Star nominee and Peter Whittingham Award winner Tom Arthurs. Their much-acclaimed debut album is now out on the Babel Label.

The group features Tom's original compositions which are defined by rhythmic interests in various dance musics (from chimurenga to braindance), strategic improvisation and a compositional depth informed by twentieth century classical music. He revels in both similarities and differences in approaches to creating art of any form, and this interest is reflected in the diversity of musics that inform this project.

The band have toured the UK, played in the Jerwood Foundation Rising Stars series at the 2004 Cheltenham International Jazz Festival and are set to tour Europe in early 2005.
